History of the Estate Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

the story of Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

              The Castle through the centuries

From the Gallo-Roman era to the present day

THEChâteau Beau-Séjour BécotIt rests on a wine-growing site dating back to the Gallo-Roman period, whose terroir is renowned. Traces of vine cultivation have also been found in the Middle Ages with the monks of Saint-Martin de Mazerat. The estate acquired its name “Beau-Séjour"In 1787, with the arrival of General Jacques de Carles, who renamed the place after his pleasant stay there. Over the centuries, several owners succeeded one another, then theChâteau Beau-Séjour Bécotwill finally be bought in 1969 byMichel BécotHe added his name to the estate, creating the one we know today, and set about preserving the exceptional terroir while modernizing production. Today, his sons Gérard and Dominique manage the property, respectively in the cellar and the vineyard, assisted by their sister Juliette Bécot, who has been handling the estate's communications since 2001.

              An exceptional terroir

              The magic of Saint-Emilion

The domain ofChâteau Beau-Séjour Bécotextends over 22 hectares, on the limestone plateau of Saint Martin de Mazerat, to the west of the appellationSaint-EmilionIt thus benefits from the excellent terroir typical of the appellation, composed of clay-limestone soil with asteria fossils, ideal for viticulture. Indeed, it is not without reason that a large number of very great wines are produced here, the quality of the soils playing a significant role. It is therefore logical that we find a typical Bordeaux grape variety composition, with a predominance of Merlot (80% of the total vines), 16% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. All the conditions are thus met to produce an exceptional wine.Château Beau-Séjour Bécottherefore obtains the title ofPremier Grand Cru Classéin 1996, and also offers a Second Wine called “Petit Bécot”. Whatever vintage you choose, you will be captivated by its expressive wines, which are characterized by their straightforwardness and density.

The Castle at the height of its art

              Between tradition and modernity

Since the accession of theBécot familyat the head ofChâteau Beau-Séjour BécotFather and son are committed to managing the estate with respect for its exceptional terroir, while also incorporating modern techniques and expertise. Indeed, this family of winemakers, whose roots date back to the 18th century, has contributed to the modernization of the winery and vineyards by introducing numerous technical innovations. Alongside this, cultivation continues to be carried out with the utmost respect for tradition; for example, the harvest is done entirely by hand. Even more remarkably, each grape is picked individually to select only the very best. This blend of modernity and tradition allows for the production of distinctive wines, both fruity and flavorful, which undoubtedly belong among the elite wines of the appellation.Saint-Emilion.
