the story of Eric de Suremain Estate

The vineyard at Domaine Eric de Suremain

      A family heritage

In order to respect and best showcase the terroir, the estate vinifies grape varieties typical of the region. On the one hand, thechardonnayis used in white wines. This grape variety is particularly fond of the poor, calcareous soils found on the estate.Pinot NoirOn the other hand, it is used for red winemaking. Its deep roots draw the best from the soils.BurgundiansIt expresses itself with great finesse in the estate's wines. The vines are spread betweenRully(Premier Cru) andMonthélie(Village and 1er Cru). The estate has been in the hands of the family since 1903. More than a century of winemaking and as much know-how passed down from generation to generation.

      Respect for nature

      Biodynamics as a philosophy

Since 1996, the estate has been certified inbiodynamicsThe work in the vineyard is carried out according to the sun, the moon, and the constellations so that water, fire, air, and earth all have a positive influence on the winemaking process. The winemaking couple and their team cultivate their vines with preparations of animal, plant, or mineral origin and spray them preventively. Human intervention helps to harmonize all the elements so that nature produces the best possible wine. The wines then express the very best of the terroir.Côte d'Or.

The lunar calendar is observed and respected throughout the year. Pruning, harvesting, and bottling are scheduled according to it in order to respect the natural rhythm of the vine. To go further, the couple has begun work to improve biodiversity. They are gradually reintroducing chickens into the vineyards. To successfully carry out this transition...biodynamicsThe winemaker was supported byThierry Guyot, a famous pioneer of this method of viticulture inBurgundy.

      The wines

      Nature expresses itself

Wood is used for winemaking. Therefore, no yeast is necessary. Wood is a living material, and the living matter it contains is sufficient for the wines to begin fermentation. For aging, wooden storage tanks are made fromBeauneand are of varying sizes. This allows the wines to remain natural and not be overly marked. Following the same philosophy, the pneumatic press was abandoned in favor of the grandfather's gentler vertical press.redsThese wines from the estate are best served at around 17°C. When young, their tannins will be pronounced, and the generous fruit will be fresh. As the bottles age, the full complexity of thePinot Noirwill develop. The estate's wines express the beauty of the grape variety and the richness of the terroir.Burgundy.
