the story of Joblot Estate

The history of the estate

From Henri IV to the Givry AOC

It all starts withCharles Joblot. After the war, he decided to transform the production of red fruits into a true vineyard and thus began wine production. He was the driving force behind the creation of theAOC Givryas such. Thanks to his perseverance, he succeeded in showcasing the identity and character of the appellation's wines. With his son Marc, the estate is taking a completely different turn. He is determined to break free from the trade and market his own bottles. TheJoblot EstateThus began the production of exceptional wines. His sons, Jean-Marc and then Vincent, brought their rigor to the winemaking process. The resulting vintages are purer and gain in renown. Today,Juliette JoblotAt just 30 years old, she is the estate's director. She uses her travels and training to maintain the estate's excellence. She imposes her own, more modern style, while always drawing on the family heritage.

The Givry appellation

A designation of origin initiated by Joblot

The nameGivryis one of the 84 appellations inBurgundy AOC.This is a designationVillage in the Côte Chalonnaise.38 of its climates are classified asPremier Cru.The vast majority of the production is red, made from the grape varietyPinot Noir. These are often tannic wines in their youth that soften after 3 to 5 years in the bottle. The white wines are produced from...chardonnaywith lovely floral notes that add finesse.

The name comes from the village.GivryAlready the monks ofClunythen theCisterciansThey developed viticulture in the region. For a long time, wines from this appellation bore the inscription "King Henry IV's favorite wine" on their labels. Some accounts mention the king's fondness for these wines. The appellation subsequently suffered from phylloxera, mildew, and various other diseases, and struggled to recover from these crises due to the small size of the vineyards. Today, and since obtaining the AOC designation, the wines of this appellation have emerged from obscurity and are recognized for their excellence.
