Greywacke

Identity: Between Stone and Light

The name "Greywacke" (pronounced gray-wacky) refers to the fertile grey sedimentary rock found throughout the rivers and soils of New Zealand.

• Philosophy : Unlike industrial productions, Greywacke favours an artisanal approach, often based on indigenous yeasts and subtle barrel aging.

• The Artist: Kevin Judd is not only a winemaker, he is also a world-renowned photographer. His vineyard photographs even adorn the labels of the domaine, reflecting an aesthetic and precise vision of the terroir.

The Marlborough Terroir

Greywacke does not have its own large winemaking facility (production often takes place at the Dog Point facilities), but relies on carefully selected vineyards in the plains of the Wairau Valley and Southern Valleys.

The Flagship Wines

Although Sauvignon Blanc is the star, Greywacke excels in several areas:

1. Sauvignon Blanc

This is the "haute couture" interpretation of the Marlborough style. It features notes of grapefruit, lemon sorbet and a mineral, saline touch, far removed from the overly aggressive boxwood aromas of the entry-level range.

2. Wild Sauvignon

It is la cuvée A signature for lovers of complexity. Fermented with native yeasts Aged in old oak barrels, this wine offers a smooth texture, notes of crème brûlée and thyme, sometimes reminiscent of the great wines of the Loire (Pouilly-Fumé).

3. Pinot Noir

An elegant and fragrant wine, focused on red fruits (black cherry), spices and silky tannins, typical of the cool climates of the southern hemisphere.

 Kevin Judd was one of the first to experiment with "wild" fermentations at Marlborough, proving that Sauvignon Blanc could be a wine of aging and texture, and not just a wine of immediate fruit.
