The Gigondas AOC
Gigondas is a protected designation of origin (AOC) in the Rhône Valley , established in 1971. The terroir is located in Gigondas, in the Vaucluse department. The Gigondas AOC produces both red and rosé wines. Grenache Noir is the dominant grape variety in the vineyard, for both red and rosé wines. Gigondas red wines are made from Grenache Noir (up to 50%), Syrah (at least 15%), and Mourvèdre (at least 15%), which impart complex aromas of red fruit, spices, leather, and garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland). Gigondas wines are renowned for their power, richness, and aging potential.
The vineyard
The Gigondas terroir is characterized by limestone and clay soils , as well as a hot, dry climate with optimal sun exposure. The vines are planted on steep slopes, allowing for good natural irrigation and optimal grape ripening. Gigondas producers are renowned for their expertise and commitment to sustainable agriculture , preserving the terroir and the environment.
At Cavissima.com, we work with renowned producers to offer you a high-quality selection of Gigondas wines. We strive to choose wines that reflect the identity and typicity of the appellation.
Food and wine pairings
Gigondas wines are often paired with red meat, game, or cheese dishes. They complement rich and complex cuisine perfectly, highlighting their power and aromatic complexity. Gigondas wines can be enjoyed now or cellared for optimal aging.
