History of the Estate Michel & Stéphane Ogier

the story of Michel & Stéphane Ogier

      Ogier family

      for 7 generations

For seven generations, theOgier familyis located in the commune of Ampuis, within the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It was in 1983 that Michel Ogier began vinifying and bottling his own wine. Previously, he had used a cooperative winery. His son, Stéphane, took over the family estate with him in 1997 after completing his studies inviticultureAndoenologyin Beaune and through internships with the best winemakers in Burgundy and abroad. It was during his training that wine became more of a passion than a profession.

THEDomaine Stéphane OgierHe cultivates 18 hectares, including 3.5 hectares on very fine plots in Côte Rôtie. He is currently experiencing a meteoric rise which places him among the best in the Northern Rhône Valley.

      The Stéphane Ogier estate

      among the elite

The meticulous work in the vineyards and the application of best winemaking practices have propelled this estate to the ranks of the very best. Thus, the work in the vineyards and the soils is carried out entirely by hand, with the latter sometimes being plowed by horse. A new, state-of-the-art winery was built in 2015 to optimize the vinification of this expanded vineyard. Winemaking practices are adapted to the specific terroir. Furthermore, the estate carries out partial destemming of its grapes and a careful selection of the grapes.single-vineyard wines.

      About fifteen vintages

      elegance and refinement

Stéphane Ogier is committed to elegance and finesse in his wines made from grape varietiesSyrahAndViognierThus, he vinifies the Grands Crus (Cuvées Belle Hélène and Lancement), Premiers Crus (Réserve du Domaine), Villages (Côte Rôtie Village, and at the same level L'Âme Sœur made from Syrah grapes from Seyssuel), and regional (La Rosine and other IGP) wines separately. The estate currently produces around fifteen different cuvées, each with its own distinctive character. These wines have gained a strong reputation thanks to the glowing reviews from the Parker team and Wine Advocate.
