The Château Haut-Bailly vineyard spans 30 hectares of a unique terroir of deep gravel mixed with ferruginous sand, resting on a limestone subsoil. These poor, well-drained soils offer ideal conditions for vine cultivation, promoting deep root systems and naturally limiting yields. The vines, averaging 35 years old, include some century-old plots that bear witness to the estate's history. A meticulous approach to each individual plot and sustainable viticulture allows the winemaker to capture the full singularity of this exceptional terroir, producing elegant, complex wines with remarkable longevity.

Owner and history

Since 1998, Château Haut-Bailly has belonged to the American Wilmers family, now represented by Chris Wilmers, following in the footsteps of his father, Robert. The team, led by the talented Véronique Sanders, works with passion to enhance this exceptional terroir. Their vision is based on respect for nature, intelligent innovation, and a constant pursuit of excellence. Thanks to significant investments in a new gravity-flow winery and sustainable, plot-by-plot viticulture, Haut-Bailly has become an absolute benchmark in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, combining tradition, modernity, and timeless elegance.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Haut-Bailly is based on extreme precision: each plot is vinified separately in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve the identity of each terroir.
For the 2024 vintage, after a gentle and controlled fermentation, the wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, approximately 50% of which are new, in order to preserve the balance between oak and fruit. This extended aging process refines the wine's texture, adds aromatic complexity, and ensures excellent aging potential.
