    The 2014 Marquis de Calon Ségur is the second label of the prestigious Château Calon Ségur, a Third Growth Classified estate in Saint-Estèphe. Located in the far north of the Médoc, this iconic Bordeaux estate is renowned for the finesse of its wines and the meticulousness of its vineyard work. The deep gravelly soils and the influence of the Gironde estuary give the wines a unique freshness and excellent aging potential. The Marquis de Calon Ségur expresses the estate's elegance in a more approachable style, while retaining the essence of this historic property.

    The 2014 Marquis de Calon Ségur displays an intense ruby ​​color with garnet highlights. The nose reveals an expressive bouquet of ripe black fruits, enhanced by notes of licorice, pepper, and cedar. On the palate, the texture is supple yet structured, with well-integrated tannins and beautiful complexity. The finish, persistent and elegant, reveals slightly spicy and woody touches, a sign of careful aging and fine balance.

    The Château Calon Ségur vineyard covers approximately 55 hectares in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on deep gravelly soils over a clay-limestone subsoil. These ideal conditions allow for excellent ripening of the Cabernet Sauvignon, the predominant grape variety. The vines, averaging 20 years old for this cuvée, are cultivated according to environmentally friendly principles, yielding consistently high-quality grapes and a perfect expression of the Médoc terroir.

    Owner and history

    Since 2012, Château Calon Ségur has been owned by the insurance company Suravenir, which has made significant investments to modernize the facilities while respecting the estate's character. Under the direction of Laurent Dufau, a new focus on quality has been implemented, emphasizing meticulous vineyard management, precise blending, and more sustainable practices. Le Marquis de Calon Ségur embodies this modern vision of a demanding second wine, a reflection of a great terroir.

    Vinification and aging

    Winemaking at Château Calon Ségur is based on a traditional, plot-by-plot approach, with fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The 2014 Marquis de Calon Ségur is aged for approximately 17 months in French oak barrels, a third of which are new.
    This vintage, more supple than the Grand Vin, nevertheless benefits from the same rigorous production, giving it structure, precision and a fine aptitude for aging.
