Château Phélan Ségur 2024 displays an intense ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose reveals a complex bouquet of ripe black fruits, sweet spices, cedar, and blond tobacco. On the palate, the attack is ample, supported by a dense yet elegant tannic structure. The finish is long and persistent, marked by woody and mineral notes, a testament to its aging potential.

Producer

The Château Phélan Ségur vineyard spans 70 hectares of homogeneous terroir within the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The soils are primarily composed of clay-gravel over limestone subsoil, providing the vines with excellent drainage while maintaining a favorable water reserve during dry periods. The classic Médoc grape varieties are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, to express the structure, complexity, and suppleness of the wine. The vines are meticulously cultivated using a sustainable approach, with rigorous work on each plot to preserve the terroir's unique character.

Owner and history

Château Phélan Ségur has belonged to the Gardinier family since 1985, before being acquired in 2017 by Philippe Van de Vyvere, a Belgian entrepreneur with a passion for wine. This lover of the Médoc terroir has initiated a modernization of the estate, with the ambition of elevating it to the ranks of Saint-Estèphe's finest. His team is working to enhance the vineyard's technical and environmental excellence, while preserving the property's historical heritage. This long-term vision, combined with cutting-edge technology, allows them to produce profound, balanced, and expressive wines, true to the spirit of the Médoc.

Vinification and aging

The estate practices plot-by-plot vinification, with controlled fermentations in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Each batch is vinified separately to preserve the unique character of each terroir.
The wine is then aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, approximately 50% of which are new wood, to gain complexity and aging potential.
