Description

Located on the limestone hills of Saint-Émilion, Château Canon embodies the elegance of great Bordeaux wines. This Premier Grand Cru Classé B takes its name from Jacques Kanon, a visionary Bordeaux wine merchant who acquired the estate in the 18th century. Purchased and enhanced by Chanel since 1996, the estate produces wines with a refined and timeless style, renowned for their precision, freshness, and aging potential. With its exceptional terroir blending limestone plateaus and clay-limestone slopes, Château Canon stands out as a sure bet for lovers of great Saint-Émilion wines with impressive aging potential.

Château Canon 2024 captivates with its deep ruby color and violet highlights. The nose opens with precise aromas of black fruit, violet, graphite, and sweet spices. On the palate, the attack is silky, supported by a dense texture and fine, perfectly integrated tannins. Discreet oak aging underscores an elegant structure, balanced by remarkable mineral freshness. The Château Canon vineyard covers 34 hectares in a single block, planted on terraces on the renowned limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. This ideal location, facing south/southwest, allows for excellent grape ripening. The soils, composed of limestone with asterias fossils and fine clay, provide the vines with natural water regulation, promoting mineral expression and the wine's finesse. Viticulture, practiced according to the principles of sustainable agriculture, emphasizes soil management and biodiversity to preserve the natural balance of the terroir.

Owner and history

Since 1996, Château Canon has been owned by Chanel, which also owns Rauzan-Ségla in Margaux. Under the direction of John Kolasa, and later Nicolas Audebert, the estate has undergone a true renaissance. A former naval officer and passionate oenologist, Audebert has combined technical precision with respect for the terroir. Their vision: to make Château Canon an icon of finesse, capable of competing with the greatest wines. The meticulous care given to both the vineyard and the cellar, coupled with a strong environmental commitment, has propelled the estate to the pinnacle of the Saint-Émilion appellation.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Canon takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with gentle extractions to preserve the purity of the fruit. Each plot is vinified separately to respect the identity of each terroir.
For this 2024 vintage, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, approximately 50% of which are new. This aging process imparts structure and complexity to the wine, while respecting its natural elegance. The wine is then meticulously blended, ensuring exceptional consistency and coherence vintage after vintage.
