Located in the heart of the Bourgueil appellation in the Loire Valley, Domaine du Bel Air brilliantly embodies the authentic expression of Cabernet Franc. Run by the Gauthier family, the estate is renowned for its commitment to organic viticulture that respects the terroir. Planted on tuffeau slopes, the vines produce wines that are both structured and refined. The 2018 Le Grand Mont cuvée is one of its finest examples: it draws its character from remarkable limestone soil, giving the grapes concentration, freshness, and depth. A wine built for aging, typical of great Bourgueil wines.

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

The 2018 Grand Mont displays an intense ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose, expressive and elegant, evokes ripe black fruits, sweet spices, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, the structure is precise, supported by fine tannins and vibrant acidity. The wine is dense yet perfectly balanced. The long, saline finish extends the tasting experience with finesse and tension. An ambitious Bourgueil with a strong personality.

    Food & wine pairings

Perfect with a grilled ribeye steak, a herb-crusted roast lamb, or a spiced hare stew.

The Domaine du Bel Air vineyard stretches across clay-limestone slopes, with a high concentration of tuffeau, typical of Bourgueil. These well-drained, white soils impart finesse and freshness to the Cabernet Franc. The vines in the Le Grand Mont plot are old and deeply rooted, fostering a complex expression of the terroir. Cultivated organically, they reflect a respect for life and a focus on grape quality.

    Owner and history

The estate is passionately managed by Pierre Gauthier and now his son Rodolphe, who perpetuate a committed vision of organic viticulture. Their philosophy is based on precision, respect for the soil, and natural rhythms. This exacting standard is reflected in each vintage through a quest for authenticity and elegance. Thanks to their rigorous work, Domaine du Bel Air has established itself as a reliable producer in Bourgueil, sought after by lovers of fine Loire wines.

    Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Domaine du Bel Air follows a traditional approach with long fermentations in concrete vats to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The 2018 Le Grand Mont vintage is then aged in oak barrels, some of which are new, for approximately 18 months. This method allows the wine to develop structure without masking its terroir, while also giving it excellent aging potential.
