Nestled in the heart of Chile 's Colchagua Valley , Casa Lapostolle is a jewel of South American winemaking, founded by the Marnier Lapostolle family. Renowned for its commitment to biodynamic practices and its rigorous vineyard-by-vineyard approach, the estate has gained international acclaim with its iconic Clos Apalta. Located on the Andean foothills, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir that combines freshness, diverse soils, and significant temperature variations. Clos Apalta 2020 embodies this philosophy of excellence, blending Bordeaux tradition with Chilean expression in a red wine with aging potential, boasting a refined, profound, and structured style.

Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

The 2020 Clos Apalta displays a deep red color with purplish highlights, reflecting its concentration. The nose, intense and refined, blends ripe black fruits, sweet spices, and toasty oak notes. On the palate, the structure is dense, with polished tannins and great freshness. The long and harmonious finish reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity dominated by plum, cocoa, and vanilla. A majestic wine with excellent aging potential.

Food & wine pairings

This exceptional wine pairs wonderfully with a beef Rossini fillet, a roast leg of lamb or a cep risotto.

The Clos Apalta vineyard stretches across northwest-facing granite and clay-loam slopes in a cool valley overlooked by the Andes. Some of the vines are over 60 years old and cultivated biodynamically with natural ground cover. This mosaic of soils and meticulous viticulture allows each grape variety to fully express itself, resulting in concentrated, balanced grapes that embody the powerful and refined character of Clos Apalta.

Owner and history

The Casa Lapostolle estate belongs to the Marnier Lapostolle family, famous for founding Grand Marnier liqueur. Since the creation of Clos Apalta in 1997, Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her team have continuously innovated to elevate this wine to the ranks of the finest New World wines. Their vision is based on respect for the terroir, biodynamic practices, oenological precision, and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence. This philosophy has brought Clos Apalta international acclaim.

Vinification and aging

The vinification of Clos Apalta is entirely gravity-fed, in small wooden vats, with long and gentle fermentations. Each grape variety is vinified separately to respect its identity.
The 2020 vintage is then aged for 27 months in French oak barrels, 85% of which are new, in the estate's underground cellar. This meticulous aging process refines the texture, adds complexity, and gives the wine a remarkable ability to age gracefully.
