Located in the heart of Chile 's Colchagua Valley , Clos Apalta embodies the elite of South America's great wines. This iconic estate, founded by the Marnier Lapostolle family, has established itself as a major player in Chilean wine thanks to a philosophy of excellence, artisanal winemaking, and a profound respect for the terroir. Le Petit Clos is the estate's second wine, benefiting from the same rigorous care as its flagship wine. From a mountainous, granitic terroir, this 2018 red wine is a superb introduction to the elegance and depth characteristic of Clos Apalta.

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

The 2018 Petit Clos boasts a deep ruby color with violet highlights. The nose is expressive, marked by aromas of blackberry, black cherry, sweet pepper, and precious wood. On the palate, the attack is ample, with a well-defined tannic structure. The texture is silky, supported by a lovely freshness, and the long finish reveals notes of cocoa and blond tobacco.

    Food & wine pairings

Enjoy with a roast rack of lamb, duck breast or porcini risotto.

The Clos Apalta vineyard is nestled in the steep hills of the Colchagua Valley, on granite soils poor in organic matter, perfect for quality viticulture. The vines, cultivated organically, root deeply in this mineral terroir, bringing concentration and tension to the grapes. The ideal exposure and temperature variations promote slow ripening, essential to the wine's balance.

    Owner and history

Clos Apalta belongs to the Marnier Lapostolle family, known for their forward-thinking vision and commitment to respecting nature. Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle, co-founder of the estate, sought to showcase the full potential of the Chilean terroir through wines with excellent aging potential. Their commitment to biodynamic farming, the eco-responsible architecture of the winery, and their rigorous winemaking practices make Clos Apalta a model of viticultural excellence in South America.

    Vinification and aging

At Clos Apalta estate, the grapes are harvested by hand and sorted by hand. Each grape variety is vinified separately in truncated conical wooden vats with gentle maceration.
Le Petit Clos 2018 is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, some of which are new, giving the wine complexity, balance and a perfectly integrated, melted oakiness.
