History of the Estate Château Mazeris Bellevue

the story of Château Mazeris Bellevue

Château Mazeris-Bellevue

Promoting the appellation since 1840

The development of viticulture in the Bordeaux region saw its first expansion during the Middle Ages. Under English rule, the demand for wine increased, and trade flourished. The Libournais region, close to the river, was one of the most favored. Later, during the French monarchy, Richelieu acquired properties. Bordeaux wines were then served at the king's table, and their reputation continued to grow.

It was in 1840 that Jacques de Bussier settled at the Mazeris-Bellevue estate to cultivate vines. He purchased several plots of land to create his own vineyard. The château was built eight years later. The estate served as a model for the rest of the appellation's vineyards. The wines ofChâteau Mazeris-Bellevueregularly receive numerous awards. Six generations of the Bussier family succeeded one another at the head of the estate, until handing the reins to theCollart-Dutilleul familyPioneers of sustainable viticulture in the Libournais region, the Château continually focuses its efforts on crafting awine that respects its land.

The specific characteristics of the Fronsac terroir

Environmentally friendly vineyard management

It is atCanon de Fronsacwhere is theChâteau Mazeris BellevueThe vineyard consists of9 hectaresThe region's flagship grape varieties, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, with an average vine age of 30 years, share the plateau and the hillsides near the mill. This geological situation adds complexity to the terroir. The vines on the plateau benefit from a limestone and clay-limestone soil, which imparts high concentration and minerality to the grapes. The vines on the hillside grow in a clay-siliceous soil, which contributes roundness to the grapes.

The vineyard stretches to the Dordogne River, which protects it from extreme temperature fluctuations. Benefiting from oceanic influences, the sun shines on the estate for much of the year. The teams take great pride in cultivating their vines using sustainable practices.organic viticultureNot certified. Therefore, chemical inputs and herbicides are prohibited. The winemakers practice leaf removal, green harvesting, and manual pruning. This ensures the integrity of the grapes.

The production of balanced and nuanced wines

The expertise of the passionate members of the Collart Dutilleul family

After the grapes are harvested by hand, they are transported in crates to the winery. It is Chloé, the wife of the son of'Axel Collart-Dutilleul,who is in charge of the winemaking. The Cabernet and Merlot grapes are placed in temperature-controlled concrete or stainless steel tanks for maceration and fermentation. The young wines are then aged in traditional French oak barrels. All these stages are guided by the ambition to reveal the terroir ofFronsacPreserving the unique characteristics of each grape variety and staying as close as possible to the land is the guiding principle of this winemaking process.
